05Pregnancy & protection86°
A real body, a real chance.
Every Sim has their own cycle, fertile days and period. The day sets the odds, condoms and the pill really protect, and pregnancy runs on the game's own system.
What's the difference?
- The usual: Trying for a baby is a dice rollHedonic Heat: Cycle day, age and fertility set the chance
- The usual: No such thing as protectionHedonic Heat: Condoms, the pill and an adjustable failure rate
- The usual: The body is the same every dayHedonic Heat: Periods, PMS, cramps and rest after birth
- The usual: The news just appearsHedonic Heat: An 'I'm pregnant' call, and your answer changes the relationship
05.1
Body Rhythm.
A cycle lasts 8–10 game days and changes with the short or long cycle traits. The fertile days are the five before ovulation and ovulation itself; after that the chance is zero.
- Period strength per Sim: none, light, medium or heavy
- PMS and cramps
- Stress delays ovulation
- Five days of rest after giving birth
05.2
Protection really protects.
NPCs decide every day whether they want protection; family-oriented Sims less, those who dislike kids more. The condom goes on at the start of the scene, and you can see it.
- The birth control pill, taken daily
- Failure rate: perfect, realistic or unreliable
- Talk about stopping protection together
- Those who want it say 'not without protection'
05.3
Adult products.
From the computer, through the game's own shop screen: lube, condoms, the pill, pads, tampons, a calming aid and wet wipes.
- Pads and tampons go on by themselves on period days
- Lube makes scenes more satisfying
- The calming aid suppresses PMS and cramps
- Fertility treatment from the phone
05.4
And then.
If it takes, the game's own pregnancy starts a few hours later. An NPC who got pregnant by your Sim calls within a day or two; your answer changes your relationship.
- Pregnancy length: short, the game's, long or very long
- A 'possible pregnancy' notice tells the chance, not the result
- Pulling out lowers the chance
- No pregnancy when the household is full
